Coin and Note Museum
As part of our second Unit Of Inquiry: "Money is used as a system of exchange" Grade 2 visited the newly refurbished Coin & Note Museum in Pagoda Street. We found out many new things. Did you know that there is a big stone called the Yap Stone which is placed in front of your home to denote how wealthy you are? Also the national flower of Singapore is the orchid. We saw that there was a series of notes and coins with flowers on them. During the Second World War the money was referred to as 'Banana Notes'. Nowadays we can have commemorative coins and circulation coins. Sadly, we ran out of time to mint our own coins. It would be well worth another visit if you are passing through Chinatown. Thanks to Karen Khoo and Grandma Lily for helping on this trip and for the lovely moon cakes.
