Yesterday, Grade 2 shared their end of unit assessments with a buddy from another Grade 2 class.  There were books to read, posters to share and even some presentations from Google.  Well done Grade 2!

In Grade 2NC, we have tried to germinate our own lima beans. We used lima beans, thick, strong absorbent paper, water, sunlight and a clear plastic zip bag. We placed our beans on the window, so they could receive as much sunlight as possible.  Sadly, most of our beans did not germinate, grow roots or shoots.  Only 2 lima beans were successful. They were planted by Angela and Niamh. As thinkers, we were trying to figure out why the beans did not grow.  Our 2 main conclusions were: firstly the beans's requirements were not met and secondly we did not re-pot the beans at the correct time, so they could grow in soil.  How should we plant the beans in future? Let's think back to a plant's requirements.  Plants need water, sunlight, carbon dioxide, soil (minerals and nutrients) and time. In our class we noticed that some of these requirements were not met and so the beans did not germinate.  Hopefully, our next plants will germinate, bear flowers and fruits for the process to start over again!

Sunny has written a poem about Santa.  Have a read to see if you agree with his comments!

The Important thing about Santa Claus is that he has a red suit!

The important thing about Santa Claus is that he has a red suit!

The important thing about Santa Claus is that he has cotton balls on the back of his bright, red hat.

Santa Claus has a big, nice gold belt.

He has thick, black, long string and a beautiful pair of black boots.

His suit is so, so, so bright.  It even has some cotton balls right behind his neck.

Santa has many elves.

They look just like him, but they are green and skinnier.

They do not have cotton balls on the back of their hats.

They also have bells and they take care of the reindeer.

But the important thing about Santa Claus is that he has a red suit.

Ms Alden now has her own Principal's Blog.  Please have a look to see what is happening in the Elementary School. Sunny and Ame went to ask Ms Alden about her blog. This is their interview here:
Why did you start a blog? I started a blog because it is one of my goals to learn more about IT. How are you finding the blog? I have just begun it.  How often do you update your blog? I update it once a month. Have you had many posts yet?  I am disappointed that no-one has posted anything yet.  But I am happy that you students from Grade 2NC have interviewed me!

Grade 2 had a fantastic, healthy lunch yesterday.  We all brought in different items from home to share.  We had carrots, peppers, green beans, lettuce, tomatoes, seaweed, rice crackers, strawberries, apples, oranges, raisins, water melon, pears and dragon fruit.  Most children were risk takers trying some new foods for the first time.  It was also great to hear people say: "Mrs Cook, this is a seed pod!" or " Wow! This is a stem!" and " Look at the seeds here!" Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm.
